Julian Hunte is an accomplished Industrial Relations and Human Resources professional with over two decades of experience spanning higher education, financial services, corporate enterprise, and trade union leadership. He has built a distinguished career specializing in employee relations, collective bargaining, compensation and benefits, trade union law, and conflict resolution across the Caribbean and Latin America.
Julian currently serves as Assistant Registrar – Industrial Relations at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus, where he oversees employment relations and advises on labour and employee matters within a diverse academic community.
Prior to this, he was Senior Manager, Labour Relations – Caribbean East at Scotiabank, where he acted as Chief Negotiator, providing strategic labour relations advice to executives and HR leaders, and advised on grievance and disciplinary processes across multiple business units. His leadership was recognized with multiple awards for proactivity, initiative, and passion.
Julian also held the role of Group Human Resources Manager – Employment Relations at Goddard Enterprises Ltd., where he directed multi-jurisdictional labour relations strategies across 22 countries in the Caribbean and Latin America. His contributions included designing employment policies, leading change-management initiatives, and facilitating management training on labour law, conflict resolution and negotiation practices.
Earlier in his career, Julian served with the Barbados Workers’ Union as Deputy General Secretary and Director of Industrial Relations, where he advised on complex industrial matters, spearheaded collective bargaining negotiations.
